PTEC Diploma Types

How do I graduate from PTEC?

A. Diploma with Certifications (After 12th Grade - Workforce Ready, Military or 4-year college for those who do not have the credits for college endorsement through PTEC), Innovative Learning Program (ILOP) SENIOR YEAR ONLY

Workforce or Military ready indicates that the student has chosen one of the career paths offered at PTEC (Construction, Plumbing, Welding, Masonry, Automotive, Woodworking, Fundamentals of Engineering, or Drafting and Design) , finished the required certifications if applicable, and completed the required standard graduation requirements.

4-year college students need to make college endorsement as their diploma type. If a student does not start out with college endorsement as their diploma type and before graduation they decide that is what they want to do, they may not be able to get all their required college endorsement classes for that type of diploma. PTEC will help the student as much as they can. However, there are many variables that may lead to the recommendation of the student staying in the diplomas of certification degree type instead of college endorsement.

B. Diploma with an associate of applied science degree (AAS). Students remain at PTEC for up to two additional years, AKA years 13 and 14, to receive an AAS tuition-free, through the P-TECH program. All general fees, course fee, and textbooks are the student's responsibility. The COF (Colorado Opportunity Fund) will be applied to the P-TECH AAS degree during the application process and the tuition amount paid for will be after the COF is applied. A contract will be signed by the student attending and the parent or guardian to make sure all expectations are understood.

P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools) allow students that are least likely to attend college an opportunity to receive an associate degree. It is a federally funded program.

Students may begin working on an approved associate degree as early as their junior year at PTEC. Only CE (Concurrent Enrollment) courses that are aligned with the P-

TECH program will be available to PTEC students in grades 11-12. None of these courses are transferable to a College Endorsement degree type.

The following is the list of AAS trades pathways at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) per our PTECH partnership agreement, and are subject to change if PPSC changes their programs:

AAS Architectural Engineer/Construction Management

AAS Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology

AAS Fire Science Technology

AAS Fire Science Wildland

AAS Computer-Aided Drafting (Mechanical Emphasis)

AAS Welding

AAS Diesel Technology

AAS Automotive Technology

AAS Automotive Collision Technology

PTEC does not have a partnership with PPSC for a student to get an AS (Associate of Science) or an AA (Associate of Arts) degree. The P-TECH program only has a partnership for students to receive an AAS (Associate of Applied Science) in the above trades.

C. Diploma with college endorsement (ready for admission to a four-year college after 12th grade). It has always been the recommendation of PTEC that any student who may want to or even think they may want to go to a 4-year college, that they start as early as their 10th grade year with that diploma type. There are different graduation requirements for a 4-year college degree, including four years of math (starting with Algebra 1 and ending with Trigonometry or Calculus (Algebra 2 is a prerequisite for these), as well as one year of a foreign language. We also recommend four years of science with Chemistry to be given to the student in their senior year to prepare them for college. If a student decides this diploma type and PTEC is not able to help them obtain the necessary college endorsement diploma type requirements, PTEC will recommend the 4-year college bullet point in section A.

PTEC was designed to be a workforce ready school, partnering with the state to allow our students to get an AAS degree in the skilled trades with Pikes Peak State College. If a student truly wants a 4-year college diploma type PTEC may recommend that you consider our Astrozon Campus JICHS which is a college prep school.
