Heather Lockwood

I began my career in education in 2018 as a paraeducator in the high school Emotional Disturbance classrooms in Kansas. After discovering my passion for teaching, I transitioned into a teaching role in 2020. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach students in grades 6–12, helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from American Military University (AMU) and my master's degree in Secondary Special Education from Pittsburg State University. I am committed to creating a supportive, engaging learning environment where every student feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

One of the highlights of my career was being nominated for the 2026 Colorado Teacher of the Year, an honor that reflects my dedication to students and the field of education.

I was recruited to PTEC and immediately fell in love with the culture and mission of the James Irwin network. This is my third year at PTEC, and I truly cannot imagine a better place to work. The students here are among the best I have had the privilege of teaching, and they inspire me every day.

Outside of the classroom, I am married and have three children, ages 20, 19, and 7. Our family also includes two friendly dogs and two cats who all get along surprisingly well! Although I was born in California and have lived in many places across the United States, I have found my forever home here in beautiful Colorado.
