Lawrence Norquist

I was born here in the state of Colorado and have spent much of my life living in the area. I graduated from Woodland Park High school, Woodland Park, Colorado. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado.

This is my fourth year of teaching science. I have taught earth, space, biology, physics, and chemistry for middle school and will be doing that again for this school year.  I have worked for the wastewater industry for 7 years receiving my Colorado Wastewater Operator Level A license at one point. I bring quite a few skills to the table as I have worked in a wastewater lab, running experiments and results of importance to the EPA. I have interned for a mining company where I have gone through MSHA training (mining safety similar to OSHA). I bring in the importance of safety and critical thinking to the classroom.

A few of my hobbies include bird watching, hiking, golfing, and puzzle building. As a middle school science teacher, I aim to mix real world experience, examples, and facts to promote an interest in science while also developing critical thinking skills to develop their own reasoning abilities. I currently live in Security with my wife and dog, with a daughter on the way this fall. One interesting fact about me is that I used to be a part of a civil war reenactment scouts group while participating in the 150th Shiloh TN battlefield reenactment as well as starring as an extra in a documentary on the foundation of Idaho Springs, Colorado.
