Dear James Irwin Families,

Welcome back, and happy New Year! We hope you and your family had a restful and joyful break. As we begin the second semester, we want to thank you for your continued support of James Irwin Charter Schools.

We recognize that families have a choice in where they educate their children, and we are deeply honored that you have chosen James Irwin. Your partnership, trust, and commitment to your child’s education mean a great deal to us, and we do not take that responsibility lightly.

This winter has been a bit unusual so far, with warmer temperatures than we often expect in January. As all Colorado families know, however, winter weather can change quickly, and we are certain that more snow is still ahead. We kindly ask that students continue to come to school prepared for changing conditions with appropriate winter attire, including coats, hats, gloves, and warm footwear. It is not uncommon for weather conditions to vary significantly over the course of a single school day.

Along those lines, we would like to provide some clarity regarding delays and closures due to weather. The safety of our students, families, and staff is always our top priority. With families traveling from across the Front Range and southern Colorado, our decisions are based on the best information available at the time, including forecasts and road conditions. Occasionally, forecasts do not fully reflect actual conditions in every neighborhood. If weather conditions in your area are unsafe, we strongly encourage you to make the best decision for your family. When possible, we strive to announce delays or closures as early as we can to allow families time to adjust their schedules.

We would also like to share a few opportunities currently available within our school community. We are still hiring bus drivers, and if you already have a CDL, we will assist you in obtaining the required school bus endorsement. This is a part-time position and a wonderful opportunity for someone looking for meaningful and rewarding work. In addition, we are seeking a crossing guard for the Astrozon Campus for a few hours each day, and we will soon be posting a new position for a Community Engagement Liaison. Please visit our website at www.jamesirwin.org to view current career opportunities.

Finally, we are in the process of planning our second Community in Conversation event, which will take place in February or March. Please be on the lookout for more information soon, we look forward to continuing these important conversations with our families.

Thank you again for being a valued part of the James Irwin community. We are excited for all that the second semester will bring.

Gratefully,

Rob Daugherty, CEO
