Jewell Melillo

PE

Ms. Melillo is a Physical Education teacher at James Irwin Charter Middle School, also serving as the head coach of girls’ volleyball, girls’ basketball, and boys’/girls’ track & field. She attended Canon City High School in Colorado, where she played volleyball, basketball, and ran track. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Evangel University in 1983, with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health, playing basketball there as well. In 2008 Ms. Melillo was honored with the Tri-Peaks League – East Division “Coach of The Year” award for high school volleyball. In the summer of 2004, she went on a 4-week tour with “The Destiny Project” running basketball camps and 3 on 3 tournaments on the East Coast.  That tour provided contacts that led her to her current position here at James Irwin which she began in 2004.  Ms. Melillo has also been the school’s coordinator for “Hoops for Heart” and “Jump Rope for Heart” during heart month since the 2009-2010 school. She has 3 children and 6 grandchildren and loves spending time with family. In her spare time, she also loves hiking, movies, and writing poetry.
