About JICS

Our school is named for James Benson Irwin, the United States astronaut from Colorado. He was a man of character and integrity. This is the model we strive to place before our students.

The mission of James Irwin Charter Schools is to help guide students in the development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs.

Vision Statement

It is the vision of James Irwin Charter Schools that all students can benefit from a rigorous college preparatory program that challenges them to achieve their academic potential.  Further, students will be encouraged to recognize and value scholarship and character.  We will provide an environment in which students are known respected and valued as individuals of potential and promise.  Through a sound curriculum based on the great ideas and values of our Western Heritage, students will be prepared to become active and responsible members of the community.

Who was James Irwin?

James Irwin was the 8th man to walk on the moon. He, along with Commander David Scott and Command Pilot Alfred Worden, comprised the Apollo 15 Mission Crew.
