FREE Computer Program

Sep 28 2009

We care about James Irwin families and want to provide the right tools to be successful at JICS. Our school has been blessed with newer computer donations and now we want to pass that blessing on to you. Our goal is to provide free computers to those families at James Irwin who do not already have a computer.

The free computer donations are for families who do not even have one computer in their house. If we have computers left to donate after we have helped each family get one computer, we will open the program up to other families in need.
In order to receive a computer donated from JICS, please write a letter describing how your life would be better with a computer at your house. Please be sure to include your name, address, email and a contact phone number to reach you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. Is it guaranteed I will get a computer if I submit a letter?
A. No. We will do our best to provide a computer to everyone who writes a letter, however, we have a limited supply of computers to donate, so it’s possible not everyone who writes will get a computer. We will keep the letters of those who do not receive a computer and get in touch with those families if more computers become available.

Q. What is included with the computer?
A. Computers include computer tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse & applicable cables.

Q. What are the hardware specifications of the computers you are donating?
A. There is a variety of different computers that we are donating which have a range of specifications.
CPU: Pentium 3-4 – 1.6-1.8Ghz
Memory: 256MB – 1GB
Hard Drive: 20GB – 60GB

Q. What operating system and applications come with the computer?
A. The computers we donate will come with an Ubuntu Linux operating system disk and installation instructions. The Ubuntu operating system is not that different from Windows, however, it is free and easy to use. Ubuntu also comes with Open Office pre-installed. Open Office contains programs similar to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Q. Do you provide technical support?
A. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot provide technical support for the computers we donate.

Q. Will you deliver the computer?
A. We will not be able to deliver the computer to your house. If awarded a computer, we will schedule a day and time for you to pick up the computer from the Technology Department.
