2012-2013 Lottery

The 2012-2013 lottery will be held February 7. If you have a student who does not currently attend James Irwin Charter Schools, and you would like them to attend next year, you must complete and submit a letter of intent no later than January 31 in order to have sibling priority status on our wait lists.

No District Lunches Jan 4-9

There will be no District lunches available at James Irwin Charter Schools from Wednesday, January 4 through Monday, January 9. They will resume Tuesday, January 10. Please plan to have your student bring their lunch.

December Finals and Semester Grades

Monday, December 12 will be the start of finals for Middle and High School students and will be a full day of school, beginning with 7th period first. Dec. 13-15 will be half days and end at 11:00. Students who need to make up a final can do so on Dec. 15, at 11:30 – make sure to let the appropriate teacher know. Grades will be ready to view on Dec. 19, and report cards will be mailed Jan. 3. Students will need to turn in books the day of final(s) for high school classes that will not continue next semester.

MS Walk-A-Thon and Spirit Week

A modified Spirit Week will take place next week September 26 through September 30. You may view the guidelines here: Fall Spirit dress up 2011. On Wednesday, September 28, we will take part in a Walk-A-Thon to help Make-A-Wish Foundation by sponsoring a student with a terminal illness. Pledges of a $1 or more will be accepted through Tuesday of next week for the students to participate in Wednesday’s Walk-A-Thon.

Health Guidelines

Dear Parents,
Our Priority is to keep your children healthy and in school. One way that we can all work together to do this is to prevent the spread of illnesses. If your child is not feeling their best, please use the following guidelines to determine whether or not they should be in school.

Illness or Symptom	When To Keep Your Student At Home	When Your Student Should Return To School
Fever	A temperature of 101 or greater. (American Pediatrics Association)	When your student is fever free for 24 hours without medication (Tylenol, Ibuprofen or Aspirin)
Cough	Frequent or uncontrollable, producing mucous or fever	Infrequent, no mucous is being coughed up and/or student has been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours or no fever for 24 hours without medication.
Diarrhea or Vomiting	More than one occurrence in a 24 hour period. If the student has had a recent head injury or if student has additional symptoms such as a fever.	Allow 24 hours to pass since last incident before returning to school.
Strep Throat or Scarlet Fever	Sore throat that is suspicious for Strep (i.e. the student has frequent bouts of Strep or a friend/sibling has recently had Strep) or fever (some children do not always have a fever with Strep). The only way to confirm that someone has Strep is with a throat culture.	After 24 hours of antibiotics.
Runny Nose	Cloudy or yellow/green discharge with congestion or a fever.	Clear drainage as with allergies and no fever.
Rash	If cause if unknown.	Rash free or with written permission from medical care provider.
“Pink Eye” Conjunctivitis	Eye is red, swollen, itching, crusty or white/yellow drainage is occurring.	After 24 hours of antibiotics.
Chicken Pox	Itching pink/red spots with blister type center, fever.	Lesions crusted over and dry, no fever for 24 hours.
Head Lice	Nits or Lice present on initial inspection. Refer to Lice guidelines from a medical care provider.	Student may return to school 24 hours after being treated with an acceptable over the counter or prescription LICE.
