James Irwin Charter Schools is named for James Benson Irwin. The mission of James Irwin Charter Schools is to help guide students in the development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs.
This past Saturday, three of our track athletes competed in the finals of the State Track Meet at Jeffco Stadium in Denver. Sophomore Miguel Molas took the 100M title in under 11 seconds and finished the season as the only 3A runner to break the 11 second mark this season setting a new school record earlier in the season. Miguel also took 2nd in the 200M race by .01 sec while senior Oren Facey took 3rd in the 100M. Alicia Lawrence came out of the meet with two state titles. After narrowly winning the 100M by .01 sec, Alicia easily took the 200M title in the afternoon setting a new school record in the process. Congratulations to all of our runners on a successful season! Check out our Facebook page for a couple pictures from the meet.
Boys Volleyball Takes the 3A State Title
by Mr. Prusinowski, HS/MS Athletic DirectorThis past Saturday, the James Irwin boys volleyball Blue team won the CBHSVA 3A State Championship!! The Jags went into Saturday as the #3 seed in the 8 team tournament with a record of 17-3. They defeated Ponderosa’s 2nd team (#6 seed) in the quarterfinals 2-1, and then took care of rival Fountain Valley (#2 seed) in the semifinals 2-1 for the second time in 3 years to advance to the championship match. This set up a rematch with TCA’s Black team (#4 seed) who had defeated the Jags on our home court in Districts just two weeks earlier. The Jags came out this time and controlled the match, winning the State Championship in two straight games to take their first state title, finishing the season with an impressive 20-3 record.
