Last night your Jags track team made its season debut. The team showed promise as they ran a personal best in the 4x800 meter relay. Josh Rendon also blew his heat away in the 200m dash. The team show tremendous potential and will continue to improve as we go into a stint of training before our next meet. Good job Jags!
On Saturday your James Irwin track team participated in the Pikes Peak Invitational hosted by Wasson High School. The day started well in the field events with Mondo Appio-White making it to the finals in the discus throw with a throw of 103 feet 8 inches and a 9th place finish. On the track, the boys 4 X 800 meter relay consisting of Josh Rendon, Corliss Brekken Jo Flores and Christian Massey placed 8th. Kelsey Jones and Caitlin Thompson made it to the finals in the 200 meter dash placing 6th and 7th. The 4 X 200 meter relay team consisting of Kelsey Jones, Alicia Lawrence, Caitlin Thompson and Icenia Anderson placed 2nd to Fountain Fort Carson, this was the second fastest time in 3A this year. Kasey Jones ran her best 400 meter dash ever finishing in 61.30 seconds taking first place. Her time is currently the fourth fastest time in 3A this year. The Sprint Medley Relay of Kelsey Jones, Caitlin Thompson, Icenia Anderson, and Kasey Jones took won the race by three seconds and ran the fastest time in 3A so far this year. Great job team! Your Jags track team competed at Manitou High School Tuesday evening. As a team, James Irwin won the meet for both the boys and the girls. The Jags dominated the track from start to finish winning the boys and girls 4 X 200 meter relays as well as the Sprint Medley relay. Alicia Lawrence won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while Oren Facey won the boys 100 meter dash and Haldane Bastian won the 200 meter dash. Shaun McClelland took 5th place in the 1600M and Mondo Appio-White won the discus. We finished 1st in 2nd in the 300meter hurdles with an epic battle between Justin Jurado and Bryant Perkins. Another notable performances would be Kahlee Alexander in the Sprints and relays. Great job team we keep getting better each week.
On Saturday the jags track team competed in the Palmer Terror Invite. On the girls side, Icenia Anderson took 2nd pace in the 200 meter dash. Kasey Jones took 3rd in the 200 and won the 400 meter race. Catlin Thompson took 6th in the 400 meter dash. Kelsey Jones took 7th in the 100 meter dash. The girls 800 meter relay consisting of Kelsey Jones, Caitlin Thompson, Alicia Lawrence, and Kasey Jones took 2nd. On the boys side, Justin Jurado took 6th in the 300m hurdles. Armondo Appio-White took 7th in the discus, and the 4 X 800 meter relay, consisting of Christian Massey, Jo Flores, Jared Mock, and Josh Rendon took 8th.
The Jags track team competed at Ellicott High School on Tuesday. On the girl's side, Alicia Lawrence took 2nd in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Kasey Jones took 1st in the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. The girls' sprint medley relay and the 4x200 meter relays took 1st. Sara Rendon broke the school record in the discus. On the boy's side, Oren Facey placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash. Shaun McClelland placed 3rd in the mile. The boys' 4x400 meter relay placed first, and the 4x800 meter relay placed 2nd.
This past Friday, your Jags Track Team competed in the Thomas Jefferson Twilight Meet in Denver against a challenging field of 4A & 5A teams. On the girls side, the girls 4 X 200 relay of Kelsey Jones, Alicia Lawrence, Caitlin Thompson and Kasey Jones placed 4th. In the spring medley relay, the girls place 3rd. Kasey Jones took 2nd in the 400 meter race by just 1/10th of a second and Icenia Anderson took 3rd in the 100 meter. On the boys side, Christian Massey broke the school record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes 16 seconds and Armando Apio-White took 9th in the discus and has become a threat to qualify for the state track meet in May coming about an inch short of recording a throw of 135 feet. Each week, the team keeps getting better.
The Jags track team to the track at the Grace Center hosted by St. Mary's. The girls as a team placed 6th and the boys as a team placed 3rd. On the girl's side, Alicia Lawrence and Kelsey Jones took first and second in the 100 meter dash. Kasey Jones, Alicia Lawrence and Kelsey Jones swept the 200 meter dash placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Kasey Jones won the 400 meter dash. On the boy's side, Armondo Apio-White placed high in the discus and continues to be a threat to qualify for the state track meet. The 4 X 400 meter relay consisting of Justin Jurado, Jo Flores, Christian Massey and Jared Mock placed 2nd and broke a school with a time of 4 minutes flat. Haldane Bastian and Kahlee Alexander placed 3rd and 4th in the 200 meter dash. Christian Massey placed 3rd in the 400 meter dash.
This weekend the jags track team participated in the Ray Campbell Invitational. Icenia Anderson took 4th in the 100 meter dash. Christian Massey continued to show improvement in the 400 meter and 800 meter dashes. Tessa Reigle ran her best races of the year in the 800 and the 1600. It was a good meet against a very competitive field of mostly 5a teams.
The Jags track team ran in the El Paso County Small Schools Championships on Monday at the Grace Center. The girls placed 6th out of 17 teams. Icenia Anderson won the 100 meter dash and placed 2nd in the 200 meter dash. Kelsey Jones won the long jump in the first meet she participated in the event!! The girls 4 x 200 meter relay took first, and Kasey Jones took 3rd in the 400 meter dash. Alicia Lawrence took 4th in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The Boys side placed 9th out of 17 teams. The boys 4 x 800 took 3rd breaking the school record, and the 4 X 400 relay broke the school records as well!! Justin Jurado placed 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles. Corliss Brekken won his flight in the shot put while Antonio Gipson won his flight in the discus. Oren Facey and Haldane Bastian placed high in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes.
