Welcome everyone back to Lady Jags Soccer for the 2010 Spring season. You now have the distinct privilege of being able to play the first full season of soccer on the brand new Joseph Dorris Soccer Field. It is right out back on the east side of the school, so rides to practice and home games should no longer be an excuse for anyone. Right now for the kickarounds, we expect you to be out on the field at 3:45 putting boots and guards on. At 3:50, the captains will promptly take them to get stretched and ready for the coaches. Warm up drills with the ball and coach’s time starts at 4:00. The coaches expect to have practice run till 5:30 until day light savings goes into effect part way through the season and then practice will be adjusted. Both Varsity and Junior Varsity sides will be having practices on Saturdays in both the classroom and out on our field. In case of weather or coach’s decision, practices may be called off and a phone will be activated with the girls to get rides for the end of the day.
GAME DAYS – Players will most likely be released early from school during 8th period for home games (Joseph Dorris Field) and maybe even earlier for away games. Any away games inside city limits, players are responsible for their own transportation. Also, please be responsible for picking up players after long road trips out of town when we happen to get back late at night.

The Lady Jags kicked off the season right last night with a 4 - 0 win in a forty minute scrimmage versus Wasson. Goals came from Karissa Gulledge who had two slotted from the right side by Icenia Anderson in the first half of this contest to put them away. In the second half, Tiffany Lee had some sweet moves to break free at the top of the 18 to have ripper past the keeper in the back right corner. Icenia topped it all off with her breakaway speed for the 4th goal when she went "off to the races" from mid-field to slot the last one home. Mickey Lee and her defense looked good in the back by thwarting any Wasson attack on goal.
The Lady Jags seem to keep kicking off the season in the right direction. The ladies had a handful of goals in 40 minutes of play against Rye. Annalise had a pair of goals, Bekah Neill had a pair of goals, Emily Tharldson and Icenia Anderson also had a goal each. The Jags defense also has been solid by keeping starting keeper Aleya Varnum very bored back in the pipes. Coach Ridenour hopes this continues throughout the rest of the season.
The Lady Jags avenged the loss against Lake County from last year with a last minute game stealing goal. The Jags pressed most of the game into Lake County's defensive third and was not only thwarted by the County keeper, but by the wood work a couple of times as well. Playing great possession ball finally paid off for the ladies when in the 79th minute, Icenia A. was able to scrap one by the County defense in the middle of the 18 yard box. The Jags also record their first shutout of the 2010 season.
Congratulations to the JV Lady Jags for their outstanding and dominating play against Lake County Friday and a 1-0 win. The Lady Jags controlled the tempo of the entire game with 16 total shots on goal to Lake County's one. Shots by Kendra Graves, Rebecca Buckingham, Grace Farrington, Michelle Townsend, Rhea Justice and Jaylynn Kuecker must have made the keeper from Lake County think she was in a shooting gallery. It wasn't until the 38th minute that Grace Farrington found herself one on one with the keeper and was finally able to put the Jags up 1-0. Outstanding play from Ashley Zachary and the entire defensive squad made it nearly impossible to penetrate to goal. Ladys, great start to the 2010 season! This looks to be an exciting spring for Lady Jags soccer. Performance stars went to Grace Farrington, Ashley Zachary and Olivia Farrington (for her first shutout as a goal keeper).
The Lady Jags continued their winning ways with a 3 - nil defeat of Aruppe Jesuit up in Denver. The field conditions were "south of horrible", but the Jags were able to overcome the conditions and an extremely narrow field to play their possession ball they love to show off. Bekah Neill and Emily Tharaldson both found Tiffany Lee up top to put two away in the first half. Tiffany was able to post two even with a bum ankle. In the second half, with numerous chances from umpteen corner kicks by Bekah Neill, sophomore Annalise Kester was able to scrap one in the 6 yard box to secure the Jags second victory of the season. Not only did the Lady Jags record their second shutout of the season already, but have outscored their opponents 14 to nil if you include scrimmages. Well done ladies, well done.
The Jags continue their incredible start to the season with another shutout added to their tally. After two years of competitive play against this Valley team, the Lady Jags finally found a way to get a win against them. With the toughest competition they have faced so far, Mickey Lee and her defense put in an incredible effort to stunt the Valley offensive press the entire game. Bekah Neill and her offense definitely outshot the Valley side, but nothing seemed to be falling. Icenia Anderson playing up top in the second half found a way to get two breakaways, but failed to place them in the side netting. Her hard work finally paid off late the game again by popping one by the keeper from the left side for the win.
The JV lady jags continued their home field dominance Thursday with a win over Valley High School 1 nil. The girls were able to control the pace and tempo of the game right off the bat. Numerous times Helen Melonas found herself one on one with the Valley goalie but was unable to finish. It wasn't until the 18th minute in the first half that Helen again found herself one on one with the goalie when an oncoming defender decided to take her feet out from under her in the penalty box, penalty kick awarded. Grace Farrington finished what Helen started. She blasted the ball past an unsuspecting keeper putting the jags up 1 nil. That is how the game would end, great job Ladys!
The Lady Jags took their winning ways on the road this past Saturday to Lamar hoping that their dominate play would continue. Right from the opening whistle it looked like it was going to be a long day for the Lady Jags, for the first 10 minutes Lamar pressed and controlled the ball on the our lady's side testing the ability of first year keeper Olivia Farrington. It wasn't until the 13th minute that the lady jags were able to show their offensive power. Pressure from Grace Farrington, Kendra Graves and Kalyn Brenner ensured that the game would not stay 0-0 for long. When a point blank shot from the 18 yard line came from Grace Farrington and ricocheted off the keeper, a patient and eager Kateryna Osnach was waiting in the trenches to slip it past the keeper, Jags 1 Lamar 0. Well, unfortunately, that did not last long; Lamar was able to score 5 unanswered goals to finish the game 5-1. Lady's you played a great game against a varsity squad! Thanks for not giving up and letting Lamar know that you were there to play and not lay down! Great Job! Performance stars went out to Kateryna Osnach and Olivia Farrington.
The Lady Jags battled for 80 minutes last night but fell a little short to the Buena Vista Demons. The wind and snow at that elevation were definitely factors in the result, but the Jags still toughed it out, especially near the end of the match. The relentless offensive press led by Icenia Anderson and Bekah Neill definitely resulted in several chances for the Jags. Emily Tharaldson was able to finally capitalize for the Jags late in the game by scrapping one near the 6 yard box. However, it was a case of too little, too late. Other notable performances go out to Ashley Corpuz and Miranda Skiba.
The score you see above really doesn't tell the story properly at first glance. The Jags went up against a 9 - 0 team that had only been scored on twice all season out of the nine contests they have played in. The ladies definitely had their work cut out for them. The first half ended with only a 1 to 0 deficit. With starting keeper Aleya Varnum out with an injury, Tiffany Lee stepped up to the challenge and had a terrific performance. Stopping shot after shot and coming out sliding to collect the ball more than the stat people could hope to count. Tiffany really put on a show. The best part about this match is that the Lady Jags never gave up. Not for one second. They battled for everything and put on a heck of a defensive stand despite the goal difference. The offensive chances were slim to none. Grace Farrington subbed in late in the game to pretty much create the ladies only offensive chance with a left footed shot to the post calling the Manitou Spring's keeper into action. An unfortunate incident happened with 5 minutes left to go when a flagrant foul was committed on star mid-fielder Bekah Neill when she had a Manitou player fall on her wind-pipe. Emily Tharaldson was not going stand by and watch this happen to her fellow sister and rallied the troops to make sure Manitou knew that we weren't giving up. The ladies raised their intensity by winning the ball for the last five minutes. What a display of passion for the sport. Coach Ridenour was very pleased because true to their word, they gave everything they had and left everything on the field. What a game. Players of note would definitely be defender Kyla Kearns, sweeper Amanda Fisher, forward Karissa Gulledge, midfielder Emily Tharaldson, and of course new keeper Tiffany Lee.
A good job goes out the ladies' JV soccer team, last night they took the field against a formidable Manitou Springs squad. From the opening whistle the game was chippie and aggressive but these young ladies would not back down. Many times during the game they found themselves picking each other up off the field as play continued around them, much to the dislike of the Manitou squad they never quite coming back for more. The girls played one of their best games of the year, even though the outcome of the game was not what they expected; the girls showed heart and soul the entire game. No matter the outcome ladies, the coaching staff was very proud of your fight and determination throughout the entire game.
Your varsity and JV lady Jags played 2 amazing games yesterday as they took on CSCS. Lightning threatened the games but we wanted to play and it showed. Keepers Tiffany Lee & Aleya Varnum had their fair share of saves and our midfield did a great job of battling for control. Amanda Fisher & Ashley Corpuz fought through injuries to hold the back line, but in the end, CSCS got the best of us.
In the JV game, our girls started off strong and DOMINATED the 2nd half. Grace Farrington and Kalyn Brenner played out of their minds and would not back down from a single ball. Olivia Farrington proved she is not a goalie to mess around with, making plenty of saves and shutting down a few breakaways from CSCS.
Friday night your lady jags were in action against an aggressive Lamar squad. Part II, after a disappointing performance last month on Lamar's home turf, these ladies's prepared themselves and made sure they were up to the challenge this time. Domination, intimidation and intensity are what they brought to the table. The Lady Jags controlled every aspect of the game from controlling the ball on Lamar's side and winning 50/50 balls, they never backed down. It didn't come until the 18th minute when team captain Grace Farrington placed a beautiful one time shot past an unsuspecting goal keeper. The team didn't stop there, with a 5-1 loss still fresh in their mind; they made sure that they would not get caught on their heels. Outstanding play and pressure from Rebecca Buckingham, Julia Buckingham, Michaela Lee and Ashley Zachary ensured that their top player would stay frustrated and not be able to find a gap to exploit or score. When first year goalie Olivia Farrington was challenged, she made sure the score would stay 1 nil. Unfortunately, at the 73rd minute Olivia found herself facing a penalty kick due to a handball in the box. As the coaches and fellow teammates stood by to watch, Lamar's top player and scorer stepped up to take the free shot. As the whistle blew players and coaches hearts stopped as we watched her approach the ball. Then, as if a miracle from above, she lifted the ball over the goal. Lady's you deserved that win. You worked together and played a remarkable game. All the coaches are proud of your win!
The Lady Jags soccer team tried to get their winning ways back on track, but would end up settling for a draw with the Trinidad Miners. Going down one goal in the first minute of the first half and a second a goal in the last minute of the first half didn't sit well with the Jags. They came out second half ready to put some away. The heroics came in the last five minutes of the game in which Icenia Anderson scrapped a tough header in the 6 yard box (and paid for it, trust me) and then with three seconds left to go in regulation, Tiffany Lee was able to ricochet a shot of the Trinidad sweeper to level the score. Off to overtime they went where two (yes, two!) Jags set pieces found the crossbar, but no dice. The ladies played extremely well and Coach Ridenour finally saw that passion for the game in their eyes again. Players of note go out to the obvious above and also Karissa Gulledge. Olivia Farrington also saw her first Varsity time for the season when starting keeper Aleya Varnum was sidelined with a head injury in the second half. Olivia was able to preserve the tie for the Jags. Well done ladies.
Your Lady Jags went on a road trip this past Friday night to take on Trinidad High School. From the opening whistle the Lady Jags picked up right where the varsity squad left off. They played aggressively the entire game and peppered the Trinidad keeper with shot after shot on goal. It wasn't until the 28th minute that Ashley Wetzel was able to slot a left footed shot past the keeper. The scoring would not stop there; by the time the game was over, Helen Melonas and Kendra Graves were able to tack on 3 more goals! This was their biggest win of the year! The JV soccer team is really coming together as a force to be reckoned with! Outstanding performance goes out to the following: Ashley Wetzel and Helen Melonas(each with 1 goal), Kendra Graves(scored 2 goals), Olivia Farrington (with her 4th shutout of the year) and defenders Julia and Rebecca Buckingham for their outstanding play and support in the back field. Way to go Lady Jags!
The Lady Jags seem to have found their groove again. The Jags shocked Salida early with a quick offensive press led by Icenia Anderson. She was able to scrap a goal in the first 10 minutes of the game to put the Jags up initially. She would also go on to have a ripper of a shot from the top of the 18 yard box in the second half to add to her goal total. Tiffany Lee and Annalise Kester would also go on to find the back of the net during the match. Aleya Varnum would technically get her fourth shutout of the season when she was pulled late in the second half to get the back up keeper some time. The ladies seemed to be having fun in some of the best conditions for soccer they have seen all year.
Going up against a team that has only let in one goal all season and is the front runner for the state championship, the Lady Jags played with their hearts on their sleeves. They did come out playing a defensive formation set up by Coach Ridenour that worked until the shelling from between the 18 and mid-field started to happen. None the less, they Jags played their hearts out and battled every step of the way. Players of note go out to sweeper Icenia Anderson who thwarted every attack she could from the back field. Also, freshman Miranda Skiba played like she has had a vendetta against these girls since early childhood for some reason. The surprise of the day goes out to new keeper Tiffany Lee who stepped in goal only twenty minutes into the game. Even though a few incredible shots from TCA hit the net, Tiffany played like a seasoned veteran out there between the pipes. The highlight of the year came when a blast from beyond the 18 yard box and from out of no where, Tiffany's fist rises up and punches it over the bar. You had to be there to see it in all its glory. Absolutely astonishing.
Last night your JV soccer team took the field against a skilled TCA team hoping to continue their winning streak. The Lady Jags played an amazing game, never backing down, and giving TCA all they could handle. Outstanding and tenacious play from Darianne Escalona and Kalyn Brenner made it very difficult for TCA's star jv player to penetrate the back line. Unfortunately in the end, TCA was able to find the back of the net two times. Ladies you played a remarkable game and you should be proud, great job!!!
With some misplayed balls in the 18 yard box, the Lady Jags dug themselves a hole early in the match by going down two goals early on. They would, however, battle back like a championship team in the second half. With Emily Tharaldson and Bekah Neill leading the charge, Emily would find Bekah with a lofted ball over the ECA defense for Bekah to power through and slot the first Jags goal of the day. Then, with Coach Ridenour relieving Icenia of her "Mann" marking duties, she was able to out run the ECA defense (of course) and place one by the keeper from the left side. With both teams giving everything they had, still no dice in overtime for either side. Players of note go out to Kyla Kearns (which the girls have affectionately dubbed "little beast") and Aleya Varnum who time and time again stuffed the ECA attack in the second half. Come out and see the Lady Jags take on the CSS Kodiaks on Monday at 4:00
The JV Lady Jags were on familiar ground last night as they took on ECA at El Pomar field. The girls took over where the varsity squad left off with dominating play allowing them to control the pace of the game. Outstanding distribution plays from Kendra Graves and Kaylyn Brenner kept the ECA defenders on their heels trying to make sure that second year forward Grace Farrington would not exploit them. The Jags did face a couple of shots, but first year goal keeper Olivia Farrington was up to the challenge; she ensured that none of those shots would end up in our net. It wasn't until the 19th minute of the second half that center mid-fielder Kendra Graves would blast a shot from outside the 18 past an unsuspecting ECA keeper. Performance stars went out to Kendra Graves, Grace Farrington, defender Julia Buckingham and Olivia Farrington. Game note, first year goal keeper Olivia Farrington recorded her 6th shutout of the year; which is a remarkable feat! We are so proud of the Lady Jags!
The Lady Jags achieved their goal of 5 wins in a season by shutting out CSS out back two nights ago. Tiffany Lee kicked off the scoring by having a ripper from the top of the 18 yard box. Icenia would go on to slot two home for the Jags and Bekah Neill would finish it off with a 30 yard blast from the right side that two hot to handle for the keeper. Well done to the Jags defense who would go on to record their 4th shutout of the season.
The Jags would finish off their season on a great note by sending the Lee twins off in their last game with a victory. Tiffany Lee had a special assignment most of the game with was to man mark and be a thorn in the side of Florence's top finisher. She did just that and very well I might add. Icenia Anderson came on in the second half of the game due to an illness hampering her these last couple of days. She would battle through it to finish the Jags lone goal in the second half to secure the victory. Coach Ridenour says well done to the defensive core as well. Amanda Fisher, Ashley Corpuz, Klarissa Nelson, Kyla Kearns, and of course Mickey Lee have been an astonishing force the girls all season long. Aleya Varnum would go onto to collect her 5th official shutout of the season. Coach Ridenour, who has been here since 2003, cannot remember a better Lady Jags soccer season. 6 wins, 5 shutouts, and a player with double digit goals tell it all. Next season they should be playoff bound with the leagues being restructured in James Irwin's favor. That will be another first for the Lady Jags.
Last night your JV soccer team took the field against Florence in the hope they could finish the season by ending with a winning record. From the opening whistle it seemed as if the season injuries, aches and pains and long season had finally taken its toll on the girls. By the 20th minute in the second half, the Huskies took a quick 2 nothing lead and would not look back. In the second half, your lady jags turned up the intensity and controlled the tempo of the game. They challenged the opposing keeper with numerous shots. Finally at the 68th minute (2 minutes prior to end of regulation), team captain and JV leading scorer Grace Farrington blasted a shot from outside the 18 past the Huskies keeper. Ladies, Coach Douglas and Everett are very proud of your accomplishments this year and were proud to coach you this season.
