Springs sports started off with a bang last night as the boys volleyball team brought home two victories and the varsity and jv soccer teams both won as well. The boys volleyball team defeated TCA's Gold team, one of the best in the league last year, 25-17 & 25-21. Then, they took on TCA's Black team and won 25-22, 25-17. The team was led by Bryant Perkins with 5 kills and 14 assists, Steven Rohde with 5 kills and 4 blocks, and Victor Paniagua-Santana with 2 kills and 5 assists.

JAMES IRWIN 1 - REGIS JV 2 (Record 3-1)

The boys volleyball team hosted their first games of the season in the Field House. The boys came out and dominated Doherty's JV team winning 25-5, 25-8 in the first match. In the nightcap, the team played a tough Regis team, coming out on the short end of the match, losing 25-20, 17-25, 13-15. Brennan Tharaldson led the attach with 5 kills and 7 blocks Steven Rohde had 4 kills. Victor Paniagua-Santana orchestrated the offense with 15 assists while Bryant Perkins had 13 assists. The whole team showed great heart and effort! Great Job Jags!!

JAMES IRWIN 2 - MEAD JV 0 (Record 5-1)

The boys volleyball team raise their record to 5-1 by defeating Ponderosa HS 25-17, 25-13 and Mead HS 25-19, 25-22. The team was led by Victor Paniagua-Santana with 14 kills and 12 assists. Brennan Tharaldson added 10 kills and Bryant Perkins had 20 assists and 6 aces. Congratulations JAGS!

JAMES IRWIN 2 - RALSTON VALLEY 0 (Record 7-1)

The boys volleyball team extended their record to 7-1 by defeating TCA's Red team 25-11, 25-16 and then beating Ralston Valley HS 25-14, 25-18. In the first match, Bryant Perkins had 7 kills and 6 assists and Victor Paniagua-Santana added 4 kills and 6 assists. In the 2nd match against Ralston Valley, Bryant again led the team with 8 kills, 5 assist and 5 digs and Victor had 4 kills, 4 assist and 4 digs. Eduardo Tiscareno added 6 digs and Josh Rendon had 3 blocks in a very good defensive effort. The team's next match is next Thursday here in the Field House.

JAMES IRWIN 2 - PONDEROSA JV 0 (Record 9-1)

The boys volleyball continued their winning ways last night in the Field House by defeating Community Prep 25-14, 25-10 and Ponderosa HS 25-21, 25-10. Their record stands at 9-1 for the season. In the first match, the Jags were led by Joey Hoyer with 4 kills, Bryant Perkins with 2 kills, 7 assists and 4 digs and Mario Sanchez with 5 digs. Against Ponderosa, Bryant had 5 kills, 5 assists and 8 digs while Josh Rendon added 4 kills, Victor Paniagua-Santana had 3 kills, 3 assists and 3 digs and Brennan Tharaldson had 3 blocks. Tomorrow James Irwin is one of five host sites for the Paul Hastings Memorial tournament. Your Jags play at 9:00, 11:00 and 1:00 then move to the final brackets in the afternoon. Come and see some great volleyball!!

If you weren't at the Field House Saturday, you missed some exciting boys volleyball. We were one of five schools hosting the Paul Hastings Memorial Volleyball Tournament. The boys struggled a bit in the first match but defeated Faith Christian 25-27, 25-17, 15-9. Victor Paniagua-Santana led the team with 10 kills and 14 digs and Bryant Perkins had 11 assists and 19 digs. The Jags then played in town rival Fountain Valley and started out well, winning the first game 25-19, but came up short the next two games 25-27, 13-15. Bryant led the team with 5 kills, 8 assists and 12 digs, while Victor had 8 kills, 3 assists and 11 digs. The Jags came back with a 25-21, 27-25 win against Kennedy HS in the third match. Victor had 7 kills, 6 assists and 14 digs while Bryant had 4 kills, 12 assists and 12 digs. In the final match of the day, the Jags had a chance to avenge an earlier loss to Regis HS, but came up a bit short, losing in three games 14-25, 27-25, 7-15. Bryant had 3 kills, 12 assists and 11 digs while Victor had 8 kills, 2 assists and 7 digs, and Jose Chiaradia had 12 digs. Jose and Mario Sanchez anchored the defense for the day as Jose contributed 40 digs total for the 4 matches and Mario had 37 digs. The boys next match is tomorrow night at Doherty as they play at 6:00 & 7:00.

The boys volleyball continued their winning ways last night at Doherty by dominating Doherty's JV team in the first match 25-9, 25-4; then struggling with TCA's Black team, but winning 25-16, 24-26, 15-6. Their regular season record is now 11-1, 13-3 overall. Bryant Perkins and Victor Paniagua-Santana once again led the Jags. In the first match, Bryant had 3 kills, 5 assists, 5 digs and 7 aces while Victor had 6 assists, 3 kills, 9 digs and 3 aces. Brennan Tharaldson also added 2 assists, 3 kills and a block. In the second match, Victor had 10 assists and 16 digs while Bryant had 5 assists, 4 kills, 3 aces and 14 digs, including a fantastic pancake! Brennan Tharaldson added 6 kills, 3 blocks and 4 aces.

The boys volleyball team travelled to Denver this past Saturday to take on several teams from the 5A division, including 3 of the top teams in the state. The Jags held their own as they came away with 2 wins and 3 losses. The Jags lost to a powerful Mead team to open the day, then lost a winnable match against Palmer High School. In the afternoon, your Jags defeated a team from the host 303 Volleyball Club and then Stanley Lake High School before losing to Machebeuf, the last undefeated team in the state. Victor Paniagua-Santana once again led the Jags having 17 kills, 14 assists and 9 digs for the day. Bryant Perkins had 9 kills, 17 assists and 23 digs. Josh Rendon added 7 kills and 11 blocks and Brennan Tharaldson added 12 blocks. The team plays at Fountain Valley this Thursday, and a win over Fountain Valley at 6:00 will secure the Jags hosting the District tournament next Tuesday here in the Field House.

The boys volleyball team closed out the regular season this past Thursday at Fountain Valley. Spotting Fountain Valley a huge lead in the first game, the Jags tried to make a comeback, but fell short. The Jags also struggled in the second game as they lost both 16-25, 18-25. The Jags were once again led by Victor Paniagua-Santana with 5 kills, 4 assists and 8 digs and Bryant Perkins with 2 kills, 8 assists, and 5 digs. Brennan Tharaldson added 3 kills and 2 blocks and Mario Sanchez had 6 digs. In the second match, the Jags dominated Community Prep High School 25-10, 25-11. Brennan led the team with 7 kills while Victor added 3 kills and 3 digs and Bryant had 6 assists. Josh Rendon had 2 blocks and Eduardo Tiscareno had 5 digs.

DISTRICT PLAYOFFS: JAMES IRWIN 2 - KENNEDY 0

Last night in the Field House, your boys volleyball team played in their first ever District playoff match and defeated Kennedy HS 25-18, 25-20. Despite the close scores, the Jags dominated play in all areas. Bryant Perkins led the Jags with 6 kills, 11 assists and 10 digs and Victor Paniagua-Santana had 8 kills, 10 assists and 8 digs. The team had a well-balanced effort as Sebastion Alonso had 7 kills, Brennan Tharaldson had 4 kills, 4 blocks and 5 digs. Mario Sanchez and Jose Chiaradia added 5 digs. Thank you to those who came out to support the Jags. They now move on to the Regionals this Saturday also hosted in our Field House. Stay tuned for times and plan on coming out Saturday afternoon to cheer them on to the State Finals!
