How Does the Selection Process Work?

  • All students who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive a letter inviting them to apply for NHS.
  • Students who want to apply will go online at www.jamesirwin.org , click on the high school NHS homepage. Once there the students can access the online application. It is important that student do as much of the application process online as possible. While it is understood that letters of reference may not be electronically sent, the application and essays must be. If a student receives their letter of reference electronically, then please be sure to send that via email to Mrs. Davis.
  • A committee of faculty/staff will meet to discuss all applicants. The committee received the information ONLY without any indication of the applicant’s name. Each applicant is presented in a blind format so that any decision made is based on the applicant’s information only.
  • After the committee has met, students will receive a letter that will either congratulate them on becoming a member or a letter stating that they have not met all the criteria for a National Honor Society member.
  • Accepted students will be inducted into NHS at a ceremony to be held at the school.
  • Parents, family, and friends are invited to attend the induction ceremony.
  • All inductees are to pay an Annual Membership fee of $15 during their high school career.
