All-Day Kindergarten

What it IS

An Enrichment Program to enhance your child’s Core Knowledge curriculum. A slower paced, hands-on learning experience; run by a qualified teacher and aide with a focus on developing language skills (vocabulary, conceptual/verbal skills), motor skill development and social skills. Students enrolling in All Day Kindergarten will attend a ½ day Core Knowledge/Direct Instruction class in the morning and then attend the afternoon enrichment program after lunch.

What it IS NOT

This program will not be a continuation of the fast paced Direct Instruction academic offering we provide. We feel that a language-rich, play-discovery approach is the best complement to our academic Kindergarten. It is NOT daycare; the program will be run only during regular school hours (8:00 AM – 3:30 PM).

    • Study of Nursery Rhymes – Discussing meaning, acting out important scenes, puppet shows.
    • Hearing good children’s literature read and questions asked to stimulate thoughtful reflection.
    • Conversation skills – speaking in complete sentences, using correct word order & grammar.
  • Core Knowledge Science
    • Plants and plant growth
    • Seasons and Weather
    • The Human Body – 5 senses and taking care of your body
    • Animals and their needs
    • Taking care of the earth
    • Magnetism
    • Stories about scientists
  • Motor Skills
    • Finger plays
    • Coloring
    • Clay
    • Finger painting
    • Discovery/playtime for building and making things
  • Social Skills
    • Learning to work with all classmates
    • Following simple and multi-part directions
    • Core Virtues reinforcement (e.g., what “respect” looks like and sounds like)

Final Details

  • Cost: $160/mo
  • Hours: Regular school hours (including early out on Fridays). No before or after school care or holiday hours are provided.
  • Registration fee: $75 non-refundable
    • Registration fees will be used to cover startup costs for classroom supplies and curriculum. In addition, they indicate your commitment to the program on which the school will hire staff with a 1 year contract.
